WINTER OLYMPICS SPORTS WORDS WORDSEARCH:
[LINK2] From luge to slalom, find Winter Olympics sports terms in the first printable wordsearch above, with further general terms associated with the games in the 2nd link above.
GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP: It's important for your students to consider the rules of good sportsmanship, and the Winter Olympics provides a prime opportunity for this discussion. Find a printable student worksheet to delve into the topic, above.
AN OLYMPIC GAMES PRIMER: Something missing from your vast knowledge of the Olympics tradition, and the various sports involved? Then try this primer, with history, symbols, trivia, athletes, issues, and more, and then have your students make up a trivia card game (when were the last Olympics held in the United States, and which city hosted them, etc.).
TECHNOLOGY AT THE OLYMPICS: Students can take any idea here on technology and the Olympic Games and research it for a class presentation or paper. Topics include Communication Systems, Tools used in each sport, transportation systems at the Olympics, and more.
OLYMPIC ATHLETES AND MOMENTS IN TIME:
[LINK2]
Students will select one Olympic athlete, current or past, to research. They will also be creating interview questions, and posing as the selected athlete to conduct interviews. A "tableau" activity is also included.
INFOGRAPHICS & THE OLYMPIC MEDAL COUNT:
[LINK2] Information is certainly a huge part of our modern world, and it's no less so with the Olympics. Students can take a look at infographics to understand how the GDP of participating countries directly affects their medal counts, using the data at the 2nd link above. Have them research other data for each medal-winning country, and compile their own infographics. Also consider what other factors may be involved, other than GDP, for the Olympic medals count.
OLYMPIC VALUES:
[LINK2] [LINK3]
Creeds and mottos are explored in this lesson plan, where students consider the question, "What are Olympic Values?". Two student handouts enhance the lesson plan, with guided questions for students to consider their own personal mottos, listing personal characteristics that they deem important and valuable. The last worksheet applies the traits students have considered, to research a specific competing Olympic athlete.
GO FOR THE GOLD GRADES 6-8: Journey back to Ancient Greece with your middle school students, researching the history of the Ancient Olympic Games, and making the connections to the modern games. Students will write both a speech, and a newspaper article in this lesson plan. Student handouts are included.

[LINK2] [LINK3] [LINK4] [LINK5]
We included this resource recently for students to investigate what kinds of foods Olympic athletes should be eating, in order to ensure that they receive adequate nutrition to compete in their sports. For the project, students will choose one sport, and then create nutritional menus for the athletes for one day. We're including it again by request, with further links for your middle and high school classes to explore both nutrition resources and fitness facts for athletes.
