Materials:
-sheets of fun foam
-pens and pencils
- white paint & paintbrushes
- brayer or rolling pin
- dark colored construction paper
Students will draw a snowflake, snowman, or winter scene onto their square of fun foam. They will then go over their drawing with a pen, etching deeper into the fun foam. When drawings are completed, students will use brushes and white tempera paints to paint over the entire design. Align a similar sized square of dark construction paper over the wet painted fun foam. Use the brayer to roll over the print, and peel off the construction paper. You can glue the construction paper print, when dry, onto a card front, and use your fun foam template in the same way to create as many prints or cards as desired. It's an easy and inexpensive introduction to printmaking for students. Older students may wish to create more elaborately designed prints, with practice.
