Take a look at issues from both sides, using a National Park Service resource on the Causes of the Civil War for this web trek for students in grades 4-8. Extension activities are included.

Students will be using a selected website to research the events and issues involved in the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861. They will read reports from both sides of the battle, and then choose one side to write a newspaper article detailing the attack.

CIVIL WAR WORDSEARCH:
Review terms having to do with the Civil War with this online wordsearch, then have students write a brief definition for each term they find.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN JIGSAW:
If your students assemble all the pieces of this black and white interactive puzzle correctly, they should come up with a picture of Abraham Lincoln giving his emancipation speech.
