THE ARCHITECTURE PAGE

October 6th, 1887
It was on this day that the designer and architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris - or Le Corbusier - was born in La Chaux-de-Fond, Switzerland. You can find a compilation of Le Corbusier's works here:

"I prefer drawing to talking. Drawing is faster, and leaves less room for lies."

- Le Corbusier

DESIGN A PAPER PET HOUSE:
Want to cover some of the principles of elementary design with your primary students? Then why not introduce them to a paper pet house project. While these particular plans are - well, rather elementary, your students can use more complicated models and design elements to incorporate into their pet dream houses.

ARCHITECTURE IS ELEMENTARY:
Was that a Doric column, or an Ionic one? Oh, Corinthian you say? Won't your students be the smart ones on the block when they learn all about classical columns and architecture, while creating their own versions.

ARCHITECTURE LESSON PLANS:
From origami houses, to castle rubbings and Baroque glue line drawings, you'll find plenty of lesson plans here to introduce your students to some elementary architecture.

A FLOOR PLAN FOR YOUR CLASSROOM:
Students will be learning how to design a floor plan by looking at their own classroom, then making a scale drawing. Take the lesson a step further, as suggested here, by incorporating that design into a CAD program (computer-aided design), and then let students rearrange the furniture (with the software program, not the real thing!)

ARCHITECTURE STUDIO 3-D:
Use some of the major tenets and features developed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright with this interactive design game. Students are guided throughout the process as they learn about architectural design and make their own design choices.

LOOKING AND LEARNING IN THE ART MUSEUM:

Planning a museum trip this year? Find some tips here to help students learn how to look carefully at the paintings and artwork they will be seeing, rather than simply jogging through from one hall to another.
