CLASS MASCOT:
Ask your students to work in small groups to come up with a class mascot.
Give students questions to consider first, such as which animals would best describe who we are? Would a dog be our best mascot, or a lion? Why? If a dog, what kind of dog? A pug, a chihuahua, a Saint Bernard, or a bulldog, for instance? (You could also use the opportunity to list all the dog breeds you come up with on a side column of your classroom board. Leave the list there till the next morning, when you ask students to go home and look up a few more dog breeds to add to your list. Then ask your students to alphabetize that list on separate pieces of paper at their desks.) Have a vote to see which group's suggestion will become class mascot.
