1. ON THIS DAY . . .

November 17th, 1790
It was on this day that the German astronomer and mathematician Augustus Mobius was born in Schulpforta, Saxony. Perhaps his most famous contribution was the mobius strip, a simple strip of paper given a half twist and attached at its ends, and having only one surface and one edge. At approximately the same time, Johann Benedict Listing was also thought to have independently created the mobius strip, though it's evident by its name who received credit initially.
