November 13th, 1982
It was on this day that the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. The impressive, severe 10 foot wall is inscribed with all of the names of Americans killed during the Vietnam War - more than 58,000 soldiers.

LESSONS OF THE VIETNAM WAR:

Rather than blindly accepting the bleak negativity associated with any mention of the Vietnam War in American history, high school students will do their own research to draw well-considered and research-backed conclusions - being able to answer, for instance, why we cannot afford another Vietnam War. Several student activities include looking at Vietnam culture (student worksheets included), interviewing Vietnam Vets for an oral history project, and completing readings for a critical comparison of the Vietnam War with the American Revolution.
