1.) ::: Why not make . . .

A BUG JAR!
http://www.everydayteaching.com/Holiday/Summer/BugJar.pdf

Summer is the perfect time to learn all about insects - first hand! Why not have your children make their own bug jars this summer? It's easy! Find instructions at the link above, and remind them to only observe their bugs for a short time before letting them go. They can draw images, write about them, or take photos to record their observations.

2.) ::: Why not play . . .

SUBTRACTION BLAST!
http://www.coolmath-games.com/0-subtraction-blast/index.html

Pacing is everything in this online game involving math subtraction skills practice. Kids have to blast out twos and threes as needed to subtract and get the number exactly to zero. Sound easy? Think again! Your kids will actually enjoy practicing subtraction with this fast-paced game. It's timed and levels are recorded each time, so kids can see how they are progressing.

3.) ::: Why not try . . .

THESE SKILLS BUILDERS!

PATRIOTIC-THEMED PRINTING PRACTICE:

Why not keep up your childrens' writing and printing skills over the summer months by first having them practice their printing and cursive writing - simply input your needs in the boxes on the 1st link above; they will all print out on a patriotic-themed worksheet to celebrate the 4th of July - and then print out the patriotic writing stationery at the 2nd link above to have them write a letter to a special relative, telling their grandparents, for instance, what they did to celebrate Independence Day.

4.) ::: Why not read . . .

FUN PRINTABLE BOOKMARKS FOR KIDS!

Nine different kids' bookmarks are available to print out at the first link above, including Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat. Want even more selections? Try our big dragon bookmarks at the 2nd link above, or print out a variety of bookmarks on one page at the 3rd link above. Try printing onto cardstock and even laminating them to make more durable bookmarks. Punch a hole in the tops and thread them through with ribbons.

BARNES AND NOBLE SUMMER READING PROGRAM!
http://www.barnesandnobleinc.com/our_company/community/Summer_Reading/Summer_Reading_Program.html

Here's a great way to encourage your kids to read this summer - with the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program. Children in grades one through six can participate. They have to read eight books (and you don't have to buy them - get them at your local library instead), write about them on the printable sheets here from B&N, available in English and Spanish, and then take those completed forms into participating stores to earn a free book! Click on the link above for the forms and more information.
